Crosby Village Christmas tree is an annual occasion. Local resident’s look forward to the local light switch on event and a gaze at the glistening tree. In 2018, locals where disenchanted by the sad spectacle which seemed but a shrub in comparison to previous years.
The disappointment quickly turned into anger and
frustration when at the
end of February, the sad stump was still standing in the
centre of Crosby
Village.
Sandra, 47, from Sunnyside Road says: “I can’t
understand why it’s
still there. It’s an awful reminder of an awful Christmas
tree in Crosby”
“I’ve lived here for 20 years and have never seen a
Christmas tree look
so sad in the village.”

There are a couple of questions raised here. The last I checked, nobody wants a permanent Christmas tree in the centre of their local shopping space.
But more importantly, this seems a sorry excuse for a use of our council tax. Crosby and Waterloo have numerous potholes, their schools are underperforming according to recent Offsted reports;

and their local library was closed due to underfunding.

Are the councils doing the right thing and saving money in the longterm? Or are they ticking their bureaucratic boxes and passing of a sorry Christmas tree as reason for their wavering finances?
